Jal-Jeera, or jaljira, is an Indian beverage. It is flavored with a spice mix known as jal-jeera powder. In Hindi, "jal" means water and "jeera" means cumin. The beverage form is essentially lemonade and jal Jeera powder, and is a popular summer drink in India. It is sometimes served as an appetizer. Jal jeera powder generally consists of cumin, ginger, black pepper, mint, black salt or rock salt, some fruit powder (usually either mango, or some kind of citrus zest), and chili or hot pepper powder.

The black salt or rock salt added in the drink acts as good digestive. Cumin also boosts the digestive processes. It helps relieves intestinal gas, acidity and heart burns. This thirst quencher is great to keep you hydrated on a hot day. The fresh mint and coriander leaves added to the drink regulate your body temperature and keep it cool. Ditch the high calorie, carbonated beverages, for this natural low calorie drink too keep your energy levels up through the day. The ginger, or ginger powder used in the drink is a great remedy for nausea that you may experience due to the heat. It also helps in treating abdominal cramps due to indigestion.

Ingridents:
  • 4 Tablespoon Fresh Mint Leaves (Podina)
  • 4 Tablespoon Fresh Coriander Leaves (Dhaniya)
  • 1 Inch Piece of Ginger (Adrak)
  • 2½ Tablespoon Lemon Juice (Nimboo)
  • 2½ Tablespoon Lemon Juice (Nimboo)
  • ¼ Teaspoon Ground Pepper (Kali Mirch)
  • Rock Salt To Taste (Kala Namak)
  • 1 Tablespoon Roasted Cumin Powder (Jeera Powder)
  • Ice Cubes
  • Chilled Water As Required
  • Lemon Slices For Garnish
  • Fresh Mint Leaves For Garnish
Procedure:
  1. Grind the 1 Inch Piece of Ginger (Adrak), 4 Tablespoon Fresh Mint Leaves (Podina) with ¼ glass water in the blender to make a fine paste.
  2. Pour mint, coriander liquid into a jug. (You can pass it through the strainer to remove the herb remains.)
  3. Add the 2½ Tablespoon Lemon Juice (Nimboo), 2½ Tablespoon Lemon Juice (Nimboo), 1 Tablespoon Roasted Cumin Powder (Jeera Powder), Rock Salt To Taste (Kala Namak), ¼ Teaspoon Ground Pepper (Kali Mirch) and stir well the mixture.
  4. Add ice cubes, water and stir again.
  5. Add more ice cubes to serving glasses and pour ‘Jal Jeera’.
  6. Garnished with a slice of lemon and mint leaves.
  7. Serve immediately.
