Fruity 'N' Boondi Raita

Fruity 'N' Boondi Raita
Boondi is popularly used to prepare raita in North India. Boondi raita typically contains curd (plain yoghurt), boondi (which has been soaked in water to make it soft, then sieved) and seasonings of salt, chilli, and other spices. It is eaten as a side dish with pulao or any other meal. Curd, which is main ingredient in this recipe, is rich source of calcium and good for digestive system.

 Raita with lots of fruits and boondi is generally favorite among kids where they can enjoy multiple fruits in a single preparation and get all the required vitamins and nutrients present is the fruits and curd act as a digestive element.
Preparation Time:5 minutes
Cooking Time:8 minutes
Chilling Time:20-30 minutes(if preferred)
Total Time:30-40 minutes
Serve:4

Ingridents:
  • 4 cup of thick Curd (Dahi)
  • ½ cup of masala boondi
  • 1 cup of Pomegranate seed (Anaar)
  • 1 cup of finely chopped Cucumber (Khiraa)
  • 1 cup of finely chopped Apple (sahve)
  • Rock Salt (Kaalaa Namak) as per taste
  • 1 tablespoon of Sugar (Cheeni) or as per taste
  • ½ teaspoon Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch powder)
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper powder (Kaali Mirch powder)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder (jeera powder)
  • Mint and coriander leaves of garnishing
Procedure:
  1. Wash fruits and finely chope Cucumber and Apple.
  2. Take a plain Curd (Dahi) in a bowl. Beat it for 1-2 mintues. You can also use blender for it.
  3. Now add ½ teaspoon Red Chilli Powder (Lal Mirch powder), ½ teaspoon Black Pepper powder (Kaali Mirch powder), 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder (jeera powder), 1 tablespoon of Sugar (Cheeni) or as per taste and Rock Salt (Kaalaa Namak) as per taste.
  4. Mix it well.
  5. Then add 1 cup of Pomegranate seed (Anaar), 1 cup of finely chopped Apple (sahve) and 1 cup of finely chopped Cucumber (Khiraa).
  6. Mix it well.
  7. Now add masala boondi in the mixture and mix it well.
  8. Finally garnish it with Mint and Coriander leaves.
  9. Chill it in refrigerator for 20-30 minutes (if preferred).
  10. Serve this as a dessert or a side dish in your main course.
  11. Note:
    • You can also use simple boondi instead of masala boondi.
    • Adjust the quantity of salt, sugar and masala according to your preferred taste.
    • There is no limit on quantity of healthy fruits that can be used to prepare raita. You can make it as much fruity as you like.
    • You can add varirty of fresh fruits to bring out best taste of raita.
